Learn about fiber

This is where you can learn about how to use the fiber from alpacas to make it into a useful product.  Most people don't know about the various steps it takes to make a finished item from the fleece that gets sheared from the animals.  This is your chance for some hands on experience.

Skirting Fleece

Charli from Windy Acres will be demonstrating how to skirt a fleece to prepare it for processing.  She will have some washed fleece for sale ($10) for you to try the next step.

Next Step - Carded batts

Lisa Davenport and Don Wilson will be bringing their electric drum carder and for $5 will help you make your washed fleece into a carded batt.  You can bring you own fleece, or use some fleece purchased from the vendors.   There will be glitzy add in's available.

Next step - felting or spinning

Once you have a carded batt of fiber, you have two choices.  First Lisa Davenport can work with you to create a felted object using the needlefelting technique.  ($10)

Kathy Moskal will be available to teach you how to spin yarn!  For only $10 you will get a drop spindle (made from a CD) and some fiber and she will sit with you and teach you how to to make yarn with this simple device.
